Identifying and buying only what is important

One important thing that students must understand, is that they do not need to follow the global trends of consumption that make us buy unnecessary stuffs. Students must identify what is real important and relevant in their lives. For example, do we need a cellphone or an iPhone X? Do we need a new Michael Jordan’s shoes or just basic shoes?

It is evident that young students usually get amazed by brands and stamps to cause good impression on others, but this make people waste money in products that can be bought at much more affordable prices. One thing that I frequently do, is to look at labels and identify the ingredients of some product, most of the time an expensive one has the same ingredients of a cheaper one.

This tip is not only relevant for buying food, you can find real good used cloth in thrift stores for a real cheaper price with the same quality of a new one, which is already a trend in great cities of the world as Rio de Janeiro. But if you still do not feel comfortable in buying used clothes, you must stay tuned for on sale products or discounts for students in stores in your city. Nowadays there are a lot of cellphone applications and social media advertising as "Reebee" that always maintain users informed about where to find discounts in products.

In this video below you can find 6 reasons to buy clothes secondhand:

What you think about buying used products?  Do you think it is worth buying used clothes?

Leisure for students is luxury?

Some people believe that students do not have to spend money in leisure or plays during their studies. Some argue that students must be focused in their studies specially because they do not have to spend money on leisure activities, which can be very costly for their budgets.

Those arguments are true in parts. Considerable part of students are young or are turn themselves in adults with responsibilities and even though their leisure time during the week is short, as a human being in a society, they need to spend time with friends, travelling, partying or even idling, because in accordance with some specialist studies, everybody needs a social life. But, how can you have it if you are student and want to save money?

The answer is: be creative and reasonable!

Students do not need to attend the fanciest party of the city nor do not need to buy the most expensive rock concert ticket. It is possible to have a great time with friends or family without spend a lot of money. The video below shows several cheaper ways to have fun with friends for example:

So, it is possible to have fun, gather friends together and not spend too much money. The most greatest moments that people have in life are not in fancy or luxury parties or events, but with friends or family doing simple things as walking with relatives in a park or a simple friends meeting in someone's home just to talk or watch a movie.

Saving money on food while studying

Food is one of the basic need of a person and you cannot avoid of spending money on it. For a student, it is one of the highest expenses and it costs a significant amount of money for a student budget. Having said that, it makes us think how is possible to save money on food while studying.

Preparing your own food in advance is cheaper, healthier and saves time. One of the most important things that a student who is willing to save money on food is to buy ingredients to cook your own food and prepare it for the whole week of study. I usually save the cooked food that I prepared in containers to eat during the week, it is a cheaper and healthier alternative to save money and time during the week, specially because you can choose what to eat.

The importance of saving money while studying

It is reasonably common that most students do not have enough money to pay the bills, do not have time to work in a full-time job or even in a part-time job, and still have to pay for clothes, books, food, school fees, commute and leisure.

In a recent pool made by Ipsos for BDO Canada Limited which surveyed Canadians aged 21-39 with a completed college diploma or university degree finds that the most common regrets include wishing they’d lived more frugally or had a budget while in school (30%), worked more hours at a side job during school (28%), or avoided adding to other debts (like credit card debts or vehicle loans) while at college or university (25%). Many also say they wish they’d chosen a degree or diploma that had better employment prospects (21%), borrowed less than what was offered (20%), attended a less expensive school (15%), applied to a local college or university in order to live at home (9%), or chosen a two-year diploma instead of a four-year degree (9%).

In my blog I will explain how students can save money while studying, giving them advises about what and where to buy cheap and healthy food, how to find cheaper prices of clothes, where to find less expensive books and how to spend money in leisure reasonably.

I believe that my experience and things that I have done as international student here in Canada make me capable of writing and share involvements about this topic. I have been saving money for the last months just using some cellphone applications, websites and the internet in general.

Even with a cheap budget I still eating healthfully, I still buying clothes throughout the seasons and still having fun with friends spending less than expected, just using the creativity and being smart.
